Miracle League of Boston Baseball

Baseball Program for Children with Special Needs Looking for Players and Volunteers

The Miracle League of Boston is a non-profit organization that provides all children with the opportunity to play baseball in an organized non-competitive league. We are looking for children aged 5 to 18 with a disability that keeps them from playing in a mainstream league. Miracle League team members are assigned buddies who assist them in hitting the ball, running the bases, and fielding. During every game, each child is given an opportunity to hit the ball and score a run. There is no participation fee as sponsors cover all the costs. What sets the Miracle League apart from other local special needs baseball leagues is the ultimate goal of building a Miracle League stadium with a specialized rubber field, allowing easy access and mobility to all.

In the spring of 2008, the Miracle League of Boston completed their first season. It was a great success with over 40 players with a wide range of abilities coming to Boxborough from all over the Boston area. Parents who were skeptical whether their child would be interested or able to play were excited to see that their child could participate and have a great time too.

We also need volunteers to be buddies for our team members. We are primarily looking for teenagers aged 12 and up, but we need adults to help out too. Buddies can participate at any number of games – just one game would be great, or all would be fantastic!

Games will be held in the late morning on Saturdays from September 6, 2008 through October 18, 2008 at Blanchard Memorial Elementary School in Boxborough, MA. If you think your child might be interested in playing or you are interested in volunteering, please contact Lauren Richardt at 978-263-3043 or laurenrichardt@yahoo.com. The deadline for registering is August 6, 2008, so contact us as soon as possible.

Come join the Miracle League because every child deserves the chance to play baseball.
